#53 Zane Three Weeks Old!!!

I’m not really why I think that this is a big day, but to me it is. Today Zane turned one day older than Zeke was when he died.

Maybe I’m just trying to convince myself that I’m a good parent and can, in fact, raise a child to the ripe old age of three weeks without dying.

We still occasionally call Zane ‘Zeke’ on accident, but it’s getting more and more rare and we now catch ourselves immediately. At first, we’d do it without realizing it or skipping a beat.

Being around so many long-term missionaries here at Andrews for the last week, and hearing their stories, I know that there are so many people out there serving God who have suffered so much more loss than I have.

At our table all week, we have a woman who lost her three-year-old girl to a car accident just a few months ago... while serving in the mission field.

I know kids die all the time in the states. I know that raising a child in the states is no guarantee that they will survive. But somehow, it’s still nerve-racking for me.

We’ve learned, by necessity, to leave it all in God’s hands. I know not everybody is meant to go overseas (otherwise there’d be nobody to preach in America!), but I do wish that everybody at one point or another was forced to give it all up to the Authority of the Universe and recognize that He is the Maker, Creator, Sustainer and that He is Love.
