Satan's challenge

Zane arrived in DC today. He has had no fever since arriving at the airport in Tchad. If he can hold out until tomorrow, this will be only the third time in almost six weeks that he's gone two days without a fever.

Satan is issuing us a challenge. Since Adam died New Year's Eve, we have medically evacuated one volunteer for hepatitis (as yet an unknown cause), we have had another volunteer vomiting for a month nonstop since she arrived, we have had another volunteer fall from a horse and break her tibia/fibular, we have had another volunteer fall from the same horse and break either her sacrum or her coccyx, three members of the Parker family currently have malaria in addition to other volunteers, and of course Zane.

It's humbling on the front lines of the Great Controversy.

Pray for us.

  1. May God continue to bless you, Olen, your wife, Danae, and your sons Lyol and Zane. Prayers are going up for Zane in a powerful way. May other volunteers come to your aid.

  2. Wow man! Sounds like God's got you in the crucible! Praying your faith will hold strong and grow stronger!

    "That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2Cor 12:10 "For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him," Php 1:29 "So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God," 2Ti 1:8 "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, " Php 3:10 "But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you." Php 2:17

    Praying Christ will be glorified in and through you all!

  3. A mighty fortress is our God,
    a bulwark never failing;
    our helper he amid the flood
    of mortal ills prevailing.
    For still our ancient foe
    doth seek to work us woe;
    his craft and power are great,
    and armed with cruel hate,
    on earth is not his equal.

    Did we in our own strength confide,
    our striving would be losing,
    were not the right man on our side,
    the man of God's own choosing.
    Dost ask who that may be?
    Christ Jesus, it is he;
    Lord Sabaoth, his name,
    from age to age the same,
    and he must win the battle.

    And though this world, with devils filled,
    should threaten to undo us,
    we will not fear, for God hath willed
    his truth to triumph through us.
    The Prince of Darkness grim,
    we tremble not for him;
    his rage we can endure,
    for lo, his doom is sure;
    one little word shall fell him.

    That word above all earthly powers,
    no thanks to them, abideth;
    the Spirit and the gifts are ours,
    thru him who with us sideth.
    Let goods and kindred go,
    this mortal life also;
    the body they may kill;
    God's truth abideth still;
    his kingdom is forever.

  4. I do not know you but have been introduced to you by Brittany Weber who is a friend of mine. Your story has moved me deeply. We live just south of the hospital that your son is expected to go to in Maryland. Please know that there is a body of believers here locally that is lifting you up. If there is any way that we can minister to you or your family, we would be honored to do so. Thank you for your service. I know that God is being glorified through it all.

    Praying fervently!

  5. Hey Olen and Danae,

    I've been praying for you guys ever since I read your post on Friday night. What a tough experience for all of you! Looking forward to hearing of God's victory. Praying you will deeply sense God's presence - right there with you - in the meantime.

  6. Nolen, on Friday you mentioned mission stories. One of the greatest missionaries of all time told really tough mission story. He truly thought he would not live through the ordeal. His testimony is inspiring. Read it in 2 Corinthians 1.

    We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers,
    about the hardships we suffered
    in the province of Asia.

    We were under great pressure
    far beyond our ability to endure
    so that we despaired even of life.
    Indeed - in our hearts we felt the sentence of death.

    But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves
    but on God, who raises the dead.

    He has delivered us from such a deadly peril,
    and He will deliver us.
    On Him we have set our hope
    that He will continue to deliver us
    As you help us by your prayers.

    Then many will give thanks on our behalf
    for the gracious favor granted us
    in answer to the prayers of many.

    Olen and Danae, may this inspired testimony be your experience as well.

    Dorothea

  7. Olen and Danae, Our family has prayed for Zane's healing and your decisions as parents every day since we heard, my girls now add "their cousin Zane" to their goodnight prayer. Our church in CA has added Zane to our prayer list as well. Lots of Love to you, Andrea Rich (Ryan's wife).

  8. Praying for you guys super hard and also that God's comfort can touch you by one way or another.
    You've been through more than most people could ever handle. that's already something.
    Isn't there a bible verse about the more you're tested, the better person you'll be and the more glory you'll get in Heaven? sigh. I'm not very good at comforting in these situations cos I've no idea what it's like for you.
    But I'll keep on praying. That is certain.
    Love, Bianca and the Collonges family.

  9. Dear Olen and Danae. I have been reading your blogs and praying for your family since you were posted at Bere. I always thank God for the service you and other missionaries are giving in Tchad. I pray that God will shower his blessings and healing mercies on especially on little Zane and those who are ill. May he continue to give you wisdom as you make so many decisions on the care and treatment of patients there. Nomsa

  10. My dear brother and sister, I have been reading your blogs since I stumbled on it. I love what you and your team are doing for God and I pray that He will crown your efforts with success and souls will decide for Him. I have also taken time to pray for your little boy Zane, the Lord will surely heal him. As for the other members of your team, He is their strength and healer. The Church is marching on and the gates of hell shall not prevail. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
